POWERGLIDE HIGH VOLUME FRONT OIL PUMP - 7 BOLT DESIGN. The GM Powerglide Transmission is by far the most popular transmission for racing and high performance applications.
As a result of this popularity a significant number of aftermarket products have been developed which improve the strength and reliability of this legendary transmission. One of the products that has been developed is the high volume front pump. This unit incorporates a number of design improvements over the factory design, those improvements include. Ringless or Ringed Input Shaft Compatible. These gears result in a greater positive displacement of transmission fluid to supply continuous hydraulic pressure and lubrication to the transmission. This increased volume helps address transbrake application and release times, minimize shift flare, eliminate trans-brake creep and rocking on transbrake application. The redesigned pump halves are now clamped together by 7 bolts over the original design of 5 bolts. This results in a much more efficient sealing of the two pump halve for significantly reduces internal pressure loss. This greatly assists with trans-brake application and release, minimize shift flare, eliminate trans-brake creep and rocking on application. Bolt In Stator Support Shaft Tube.
The stator support shaft/tube is a weak point of the factory Powerglide Pump when used in high performance applications. It is common for the factory spec pumps to strip the spline that holds the stator support shaft in the pump, even when using billet aftermarket stator tubes. This will result in loss of torque converter performance and damage to the transmission. This improved design incorporates a bolt in and doweled stator support shat tube to completely eliminate the possibility of this item rotating in the pump. Redesigned oil circuitry to increase flow to the torque converter and cooler circuit. This item is a must for all high performance Powerglide transmissions.
